Alsóörs is the pearl of this part of the coast. The ancient village built on Somlyó-hill has extensiv large bathing facilities. It is a hospitable spa with an enormous sandy beach, smooth water and all the necessary conveniences. The ancient settlement offers you a spectacular with view its old peasant houses built of red stone as well as its other buildings.
In the vineyards near the village, you can find several taverns and friendly cellars built on former Roman walls. The Middle Ages already witnessed the production of wines for merry-making. Since Medieval times the characteristic Permian red stone has been mined and carved here, and the skillful inhabitants have been fishing in the rich waters of Lake Balaton. The village people respect their past highly: the glory of the herves of Alsóörs who took part in the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, and also the memory of our famous poet Sándor Endrődi (1850-1920). They esteem their landmarks: the church characterized by and ornated with 13th century Gothic and Baroque features, as well as the Medieval gothic manor better known as Törökház. The summer is rich in entertainment and cultural programmes, such as musical events, exhibitions, rowing across Lake Balaton, folkdancing and discos. There are various sports events in the sports-hall as well outdoors. At the end of the season there is a farewell festival.
