Hogyész the central village of Hegyhát, lies in beautiful surroundings. The proximity of towns, the railway station and the main road running through the village guarantee its development. Half of the 3148 inhabitants are German-speakers. The Counts of the Apponyis had their family estates here. The castle and the park are popular spectacles. Large-scale farming is undertranformation.
The reviviscence of handicraft industry is welcomed in the region. Its institutions, the primary school of bi-lingual instruction, prosperous commerce, historical buildings and the statuary in public places have deservedly raised Hőgyész to the centre of the neighbouring villages and make it attractive for tourism.
